About DAX Index

The DAX index or the DAX 30 as it is popularly known is the most important index of Germany and was established on 30th December, 1987, to begin from a base value of 1000. The 30 components of this stock index are the largest organizations in the country and because this index measures their performance in terms of volume of the order book as well as market capitalization, it is also nicknamed as the 'blue chip stock market index' or the 'blue counter index'.

All the 30 companies which form the DAX are listed with the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in terms of a sizeable turnover as well since it is a mandatory eligibility requirement. The firms which aspire to feature in DAX should fulfill other obligatory requirements as well in order to be eligible like their legal headquarters should be located in Germany and that while being registered with any other country of the European Union they should be functional within the political boundaries of Germany as well. The performance index of DAX is measured by the Deutsche Boerse AG through its electronic system, the XETRA, and all the calculations are conducted on working days between 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. although trading in the stock exchange closes at 10p.m. in the night. While L-DAX is the main benchmark of the DAX's performance, some of the other members of the DAX family include the TecDAX, the MDAX, the HDAX, the SDAX and the CDAX.

DAX Index

Having started out as the Deutscher Aktien Index 30, the DAX is a completely transparent index which takes pride in adhering to the rules of trading and since it keeps track of the performance of the 30 German giants in terms of development and progress made in the equities market, it is representative of about 80% of the total authorized market capital in the country. Moreover, Germany being one of the noteworthy economies of this world, this index is obviously counted amongst the most important equities stock markets in the world which features more than 40,000 financial products and is the third largest in the field of derivatives.

The DAX is a true reflection of the German stock market as the composition of the index is not only subject to annual re-evaluation but is also subject to being changed within the year under special circumstances like mergers, acquisitions, closures and de-listings. Since the DAX is an index which measures performance of its components through dividends, bonuses, profits and other significant happenings it is extremely essential for an investor to acquire the most accurate trading tool which would assist him in interpreting him the DAX Index trading system. Most of the traders who invest in DAX rely on software packages due to the electronic nature of this index and in this regard the traders are recommended to acquire a package which is capable of making accurate predictions pertaining to moving averages.

While trading in DAX, the investor might as well bear this important fact in mind that the DAX follows the American Dow Jones closely. Therefore, it is strongly advisable to commence trading by opening two Dow charts as well as two DAX chart charts which are equivalents of the Dow. One needs to set both the DAX as well as the Dow charts and also keep in mind the fact that it is the chart which updates only 1 minute which needs to be followed. Some of the other modes of trading which one should be aware of are the two methods of exit namely breakouts and continuation and also the precise moment as to when a particular trade needs to be exited. Trading in DAX is similar to the methodology of trading in other indices as well in the sense that one should beware of loss of concentration, not to get carried away by success and most importantly enjoy trading.

The DAX index is the most convenient alternative for an individual who wishes to invest in German stocks because it is by trading in DAX that one can not only acquire stocks of some of the biggest organizations but will also enjoy the fruits of progress in terms of profits made by the German economy as a whole.
