At least $500 is required for registering or opening an account with Etrade Financial. The account registration is very fast and organized too. Right after you have created your account, you can log on to the website and start trading immediately. Or you can explore a bit and absorb a bit more knowledge before jumping on to the online trading bandwagon. However, there is no option for paper trading or virtual trading, so you will have to wait till your money transfer is complete in order to start trading.
Fees & Commissions
The commission schedule of Etrade is tiered. If in a quarter you deal with more than 150 trades, then you would be allowed to pay only $7.99 for each trade you make. On the other hand, if you are not able to make 150 trades per quarter then the price for each trade would increase to $9.99. Likewise, it is the same for options trades too. If you choose broker assisted trading or global trading then you would be charged additional commissions. Also there is an account maintenance fee of $40 if you fail to maintain a minimum account balance of $10,000.
